The Arizona Diamondbacks activated closer J.J. Putz from the disabled list on Saturday, the team announced on Twitter.

Putz had been on the disabled list since early May with a strained UCL in his right elbow, but was solid in rehab appearances down in Reno.

Putz was placed on the DL on May 8 due to a strained UCL in his right elbow after suffering the injury in a game against the Dodgers. Putz made four rehab appearances for Triple-A Reno, though Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers noticed that Putz's velocity was down slightly. Putz saw good results regardless, allowing just one earned run in Reno.
The 36-year-old Putz had five saves in nine chances prior to hitting the DL. The veteran reliever has posted a 4.26 ERA and 1.579 WHIP in 14 games on the year.
Heath Bell was the interim closer for the Diamondbacks in Putz's absence and had been pitching very well, but has allowed seven earned runs in his last six appearances.
To make room for Putz on the roster, the team optioned RHP Zeke Spruill to Reno Friday night.
