San Francisco Giants infielder Marco Scutaro is battling a back injury, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area reports. Scutaro is out of the Giants starting lineup Sunday, replaced by Tony Abreu at second base.
Marco Scutaro injury: Giants 2B dealing with back issue
The veteran dealt with the same back issue earlier in the season.

The veteran infielder missed a few games in Spring Training with the back issue, noted by Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. Scutaro later told Schulman that his right leg is “a half-inch shorter than his left,” which he believed contributed to the injury. The infielder purchased custom-made shoes to help fix the issue, as he disliked the orthopedics he originally used to correct the problem.
Scutaro has contributed offensively this season when healthy, hitting .319/.372/.417 in 306 plate appearances. The Giants signed Scutaro to a three-year, $20 million contract in the off-season.
The second baseman also suffered a pinkie injury earlier in June, and was forced to miss six games after being hit by a pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
