Rounding the Bases: Scores and highlights from Monday’s games

All the scores and highlights from Monday’s action.

Harry How

Yankees 7, Indians 4: Mark Teixeira hit his first home run of the season, and did so with a grand slam. Travis Hafner would also add his ninth home run of the season as the Yankees would get a good effort out of their bullpen. Andy Pettitte allowed four runs in 4 2/3 innings.

Phillies 7, Marlins 2: Domonic Brown hit his ninth home run in his last 10 games, and the Phillies cruised over the hapless Marlins.

Reds 3, Rockies 0: Jay Bruce hit a home run, Bronson Arroyo pitched eight shutout innings, and Aroldis Chapman closed this one for the Reds.

Braves 7, Pirates 2: Kris Medlen pitched seven innings without allowing an earned run, and the Braves cruised to this win over the Pirates. Jason Heyward hit a home run in this one.

Athletics 10, Brewers 2: Nineteen hits and 10 runs later, the Athletics quietly improved to 35-24. Moneyball lives!

Cardinals 7, Diamondbacks 1: Lance Lynn was in control of this one, and Matt Carpenter and Carlos Beltran each added three hits as the Cardinals cruised to their 38th win of the season.

Astros 2, Angels 1: This is not a typo: the Astros just swept the Angels in a four-game series. In Anaheim. Can't the Astros get the first pick instead of the Marlins, because they at least pretended to care about the game of baseball?

Mariners 4, White Sox 2: Raul Ibanez hit a home run and Endy Chavez had two hits. No, this is not 2005, but if it was, that would be cool, because that would mean you have a time machine.

Dodgers 2, Padres 1: Yasiel Puig is the man. Adrian Gonzalez and Scott Van Slyke each hit solo home runs to represent the two Dodger runs.

But guys, Yasiel Puig is my hero and he should be yours, too. He had two hits in his MLB debut and managed this double-play to end the game:
