2013 MLB Draft results: 3B D.J. Peterson selected by Mariners with the No. 12 pick

The Seattle Mariners selected 3B D.J. Peterson with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2013 MLB Draft. One of the most polished bats in the class, Peterson could climb the minor-leagues very quickly.

The Seattle Mariners have selected New Mexico Lobos third baseman D.J. Peterson with the No. 12 pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft.

Known as one of the most polished hitters in this draft class, Peterson is thought to have the ability to move quickly through the minor leagues. He is a complete hitter, showing the ability to both hit for contact and power. He hit .408 with 18 home runs in the Lobos’ hitter-friendly ballpark, but scouts think that his bat will play in more neutral environments as well.

“He will struggle at times with secondaries but is generally advanced in his approach and in his ability to make in-game adjustments,” Baseball Prospectus’ Nick J Faleris wrote.

The main concern with Peterson is whether he can stick at third base or not as he continues to mature. If he ends up at first, his bat should still be able to play, but it will not provide the same impact that it would at third.
