San Diego Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso is expect to miss at least one month with a fractured hand, general manager Josh Byrnes announced in a radio interview with 1090-AM on Friday.
Yonder Alonso injury: Padres 1B out with a fractured hand
The Padres first baseman is expected to miss at least a month of playing time.

The Padres made a last-minute decision to place Alonso on the disabled list Thursday night. The team originally planned to option Kyle Blanks to Triple-A Tucscon to make room for Cameron Maybin, who returned to the lineup against the Colorado Rockies after spending time on the DL with a wrist injury. Alonso, however, did not respond well when he attempted to swing the bat, which prompted the change of plans.
Alonso suffered the injury last week when he was hit by a pitch. The 26-year-old hit .285/.335/.416 in 212 plate appearances, but has not hit for as much power as some had hoped he would this season. The Padres moved the fences in at Petco Park before the 2013 season, but Alonso has only responded with six home runs.
Mark Kotsay started at first base last night for San Diego. Jesus Guzman, Yasmani Grandal and Blanks may also receive some innings at first while Alonso is out.
