Daniel Hudson has suffered a re-tear of his UCL tendon in his elbow, the Arizona Diamondbacks confirmed Tuesday afternoon. Hudson was recovering from Tommy John surgery to repair the tendon, but suffered a setback on June 4 while pitching for Double-A Mobile. He left the mound Tuesday night with elbow stiffness, prompting another round of meetings with doctors.

Tuesday night was Hudson’s first minor-league rehab start since undergoing surgery last July. The Diamondbacks planned to reevaluate Hudson after two starts to decide whether he was fit to return to the regular rotation. Given the the typical 12-month recovery window for Tommy John surgery, Hudson appeared to be ahead of schedule.

Arizona says it is exploring all recovery options, which could include another round of Tommy John surgery. If another procedure is needed, Hudson would miss his second consecutive season.

The 26-year-old right-handed pitcher boasts a career 28-17 record and a 3.68 ERA through 62 game appearances, including 58 starts.
