The Cleveland Indians placed starting pitcher Zach McAllister on the 15-day disabled list with a right middle finger injury, the team announced on Saturday. Right-handed pitcher Carlos Carrasco was recalled from Triple-A Columbus to start in McAllister's place.

McAllister owns a 3.43 ERA through 11 starts this year despite posting worse strikeout and walk rates than he did last season when he finished with a 4.24 ERA. McAllister lasted just 4 ⅓ innings -- his shortest outing of the season -- in his last start against the Rays on June 2. He allowed four earned runs on seven hits and four walks, and failed to strike out a batter.

Carrasco made one start for the Indians this season, surrendering seven runs in 3 ⅔ innings in a 14-1 loss to the Yankees on April 9. Carrasco was suspended for eight games for throwing at Kevin Youkilis in that contest, but is appealing the ban.

Carrasco, who owns a 5.16 ERA in 34 career big-league starts, is 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA for Columbus.
