Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun left Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with right thumb soreness, the team announced on its Twitter feed.

The thumb injury has forced the outfielder to change his swing this season.

Braun struck out in the first inning during his only plate appearance of the day, but stayed in the field until his next at bat. Logan Schafer pinch-hit for Braun in the top of the third inning, staying in the game to play left field.
Brewers manager Ron Roenicke discussed Braun’s injury with Adam McCalvy of MLB.com before the game, and expressed concern for his injured superstar:
”We’ve got to figure out what to do there. We’ve got to start going in the right direction with him, and sometimes it’s not. ... I’m hoping we don’t have to [place him on the disabled list], but we start making gains and he says, ‘Yeah, I feel really good today,’ and then all of a sudden it’s a bad day and a setback.
Braun has had a strong offensive season for the Brewers despite the injury, entering Sunday’s game hitting .305/.382/.512 in 241 plate appearances. The left fielder is only on pace for 24 home runs this season, though, with zero in his last 65 plate appearances. Braun admitted to Andrew Gruman of Fox Sports Wisconsin that he has changed his swing this season to accommodate for the thumb injury.
