Edwin Encarnacion injury: Blue Jays 1B scratched from lineup with hamstring soreness

The sore hamstring had limited Encarnacion to the DH role for the past few games.

Toronto Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion was a late scratch from the team's lineup against the Detroit Tigers on Monday with hamstring soreness, reported by Jason Beck of MLB.com.

Encarnacion has been dealing with the hamstring issue for the past few days, manager John Gibbons told Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star. The hamstring and a sore left wrist previously limited Encarnacion to the DH role, but had yet to affect his hitting.

The first baseman has looked impressive at the plate this season, hitting .270/.350/.537 with 23 home runs and 66 RBI. Encarnacion had a breakout season in 2012, hitting .280/.384/.557 with 42 homers and 110 RBI.

Gibbons removed first baseman Adam Lind from Sunday night's game with mid-back soreness, and Lind is not in the starting lineup on Monday. Mark DeRosa will play first base, while J.P. Arencibia will serve as the DH. Emilio Bonifacio is the only healthy player on Toronto's bench against the Tigers.
