Yankees selling starters?
The New York Yankees are "aggressively pushing" to get rid of two of their homegrown pitchers -- starter Phil Hughes and reliever Joba Chamberlain. One AL exec told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal that Joba could be suiting up with an NL team soon, but no deal appears imminent. The market for Hughes seems to be wide open -- i.e. no one really knows who's interested -- and it's believed that his asking price is "incredibly high." The Phillies, Giants, and Braves have all been tied to Joba over the last week or so, though separate rumors have indicated that the Phillies and Giants are NOT looking at the hefty right-hander
Sox looking for relief from bullpen injuries
The Boston Red Sox are on the prowl for bullpen help, and they are looking at a variety of teams to solve their relief woes. Along with a trio of Milwaukee Brewers -- John Axford, Francisco Rodriguez, and Mike Gonzalez -- the red stockings are also rumored to be looking at three White Sox relievers -- Matt Thornton, Addison Reed, and Matt Lindstrom. Given Joel Hanrahan's and Andrew Miller's season-ending injuries, Boston could end up adding both a right-hander and a southpaw to the bullpen mix.
Injuries have Rangers looking for righty bat
The Texas Rangers are on the market for a right-handed bat to balance out their lefty-heavy roster, per Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. With utility man Jeff Baker and designated hitter Lance Berkman (switch-hitter) both on the disabled list, the Rangers are a little short-handed when it comes to righty bats. Wilson speculates that Texas could go after Alex Rios, but it unsure how the Rangers would deal with the money remaining on his contract (about $4MM). Of course, the Rangers do have a pretty good righty hitter in their farm system -- *cough* Manny Ramirez *cough* -- it's just unclear whether he's still got the skills to cut it at the big-league level.
Ruben Amaro Smug Alert: Buying, not selling
The Philadelphia Phillies are sitting at 45-47 on the year and are only getting older, leading many believe the club could look to sell big names like Chase Utley,Cliff Lee, Carlos Ruiz, and Michael Young. Don't tell Ruben Amaro, though, because the GM seems to still have his sights set on being a buyer at the deadline, per Buster Olney of ESPN. The club's upcoming 10-game homestand is likely to bear out whether they'll be shopping or selling at the deadline.
