Ryan Braun placed on bereavement list by Brewers

After returning early from the disabled list, Ryan Braun was placed on the bereavement list Thursday by the Brewers.

The Brewers placed outfielder Ryan Braun on the bereavement list Thursday with what is being called a "family medical issue," the team announced via Twitter.

The team recalled outfielder Caleb Gindl from Triple-A Nashville, and he joined the team for Thursday night's game. Gindl was five-for-20 in a previous stint with the Brewers this season.

His placement on the bereavement list ends a whirlwind of a week for Braun, who went from the DL, to being on pace to return Thursday, to returning much earlier in the week than he imagined.

Braun can be on the bereavement list anywhere from three to seven days, and with the All-Star Break coming soon, it is likely the Brewers’ slugger sits out through then.

Braun, 29, is hitting .304 this season with nine home runs. He has missed significant time with injury, which has severely limited the production of the 2011 National League MVP.
