Ryan Vogelsong injury: Giants RHP throws bullpen session

The Giants got one step closer to the return of Ryan Vogelsong.

Giants starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong threw a bullpen session Thursday in front of a group of Giants decision-makers, reports Alex Pavlovic of The Mercury News.

Those in attendance included Giants manager Bruce Bochy and pitching coach Dave Righetti, among others. Vogelsong is currently trying to return from a fractured hand that he sustained earlier in the season.

With Matt Cain's health recently being questioned, the team could certainly use some depth in their rotation.

Vogelsong had an ERA of 7.19 before getting hurt earlier in the season, but has posted sub-4 ERAs each of the last two seasons for the Giants. For a team that is currently struggling greatly right now, getting back one of its most consistent starters could be a big boost.

He will still need to make some rehab starts, which he has not yet been cleared to do yet.
