Around the Bases: Tempers flare across the league

Indians 4, Blue Jays 2: Danny Salazar excelled in his big-league debut, pitching six innings of one run ball. The Indians improve to 48-44.

Rays 4, Twins 3: Luke Scott and Evan Longoria both hit home runs and Wil Myers drove in two runs. Somewhere in his lab, Andrew Friedman is laughing maniacally.

Yankees 8, Royals 4: Derek Jeter was 1-4 with an RBI in his first game back since his injury, and the Yankees cruised to an easy win over the Royals.

White Sox 6, Tigers 3: A Josh Phegley grand-slam provided the offense, and the White Sox won. And this happened:

Red Sox 8, Mariners 7: Steven Wright, the knuckleballer, pitched 5⅔ innings of relief in this one and did not allow a run. The Red Sox pulled it out in 10 innings.

Orioles 3, Rangers 1: Chris Davis either A.) hit a home run, B.) hit a home run, C.) hit a home run, or D.) hit a home run in this one. You guess.

Phillies 3, Nationals 1: Kyle Kendrick and the Phillies' bullpen teamed up to shut the Nationals down in this one and continue their nightmare season.

Braves 6, Reds 5: A solid start from Tim Hudson and four RBIs from Freddie Freeman gave the Braves the win.

Cubs 3, Cardinals 0: Edwin Jackson is good. And seriously guys, who keeps pissing off Mike Matheny?

Diamondbacks 5, Brewers 3: Adam Eaton drove in two runs and Wade Miley allowed three runs over eight innings.

Dodgers 6, Rockies 1: The Dodgers just kept on rolling with another win. Chris Capuano was terrific for Los Angeles, giving up no runs and no walks while allowing six hits and striking out eight in 6⅓ innings pitched. Yasiel Puig went 2-for-4 and is hitting .397.

Giants 4, Padres 2: San Diego snatched a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first but were held down from there by Madison Bumgarner, who once again played stopper for the free-falling Giants. Bumgarner allowed just four hits and one walk in seven innings and improved to 10-5. Pablo Sandoval hit a home run and the Gregor Blanco went 3-for-5.
