MLB trade rumor roundup: Red Sox out of Garza sweepstakes, Brewers relievers drawing interest

The Boston Red Sox do not feel "desperate enough" to pay the steep price for Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Matt Garza, and are "lukewarm" about making a deal, according to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News. The Red Sox still need of a starting pitcher, but hope that a healthy Clay Buchholz can give the team a boost. There are still a multiple teams interested in acquiring Garza, if the Cubs decide to move him.

The Milwaukee Brewers have a number of teams interested in a trio of relievers; the Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers all have scouts in Milwaukee, reports Danny Knobler of CBS Sports. John Axford, Mike Gonzalez and Francisco Rodriguez are the bullpen arms drawing the most interest. The Brewers are shopping all three relievers, so each pitcher may have a new home before the trade deadline.

The Chicago White Sox are asking teams for "high-end prospects" in return for relief pitcher Matt Thornton, as the team hopes to improve their starting pitching and "talent up the middle," reports Comcast Sportsnet's Dan Hayes. Thornton is due the rest of his $5.5 million contract this season, and has a $1 million buyout for next year. Chicago may need to eat some of the money due to Thornton, or lower their expectations about his potential return.

The latest trade rumors surrounding the Miami Marlins involve outfielder Justin Ruggiano, but the team is "not motivated" to move the outfielder, according to Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinal. Ruggiano leads the Marlins with 12 home runs, and is still under team control. The New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers and Pittsburgh Pirates are all searching for outfield depth, but may need to look elsewhere.
