MLB trade rumors: Seattle Mariners want ‘premier prospects’ for relievers

The Mariners do not plan to aggressively shop their relievers before the trade deadline.

USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Mariners are looking for "premier prospects" in return for their trio of lefthanded relievers, Peter Gammons is reporting.

Teams have inquired about Mariners pitchers Oliver Perez, Charlie Furbush and Brian Moran. Perez and Furbush are currently with the major-league roster, while Moran is pitching for Triple-A Tacoma. All three lefties have pitched well at their respective levels; each reliever owns a sub-3.75 ERA and is averaging more than 12 K/9.

Perez has drawn the most interest, as the former starter has reinvented himself out of the bullpen. The Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves have discussed Perez with the Mariners, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, but the team has no plans to shop its players, as general manager Jack Zduriencik told reporters:

“We’ll see how this week goes. I’m not going to be the aggressor. I’m not shopping anyone.”

Left-handed relief pitching will not come cheap before the trade deadline, as the Chicago White Sox are searching for "high-end prospects" in return for Matt Thornton.
