Atlanta Braves outfielder B.J. Upton left the team's game on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds after suffering a strained right adductor muscle, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Upton was injured while making a diving attempt on Todd Frazier's run-scoring triple in the top of the first inning. Cincinnati took a 3-0 lead on the play. Upton was replaced in the lineup by Joey Terdoslavich and in the field by Reed Johnson, who slid over from right field.

Upton, 28, signed a five-year, $75.25 million deal with the Braves prior to the season. He has struggled in his first year in Atlanta, hitting .177/.266/.300 in 318 plate appearances prior to Friday.

Despite Upton's struggles, the Braves are currently in first place in the National League East with a 53-39 record, six games better than the Washington Nationals entering Friday.
