Justin Upton injury: Braves OF leaves with left calf strain

Justin Upton became the third Braves outfielder to suffer an injury in the past two games.

Mike Ehrmann

Braves outfielder Justin Upton left the Atlanta's game against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday with a strained left calf, the team announced. Upton's status will be re-evaluated on Saturday.

Upton appeared to land awkwardly while stepping on first base in his attempt to beat out a ground ball to Reds shortstop Zack Cozart in the bottom of the seventh inning. Upton limped back to the dugout and was replaced in the top of the eighth by Tyler Pastornicky, whose appearance in the outfield was the first of his major league career. Pastornicky saw time in the outfield in just three of his 486 career minor league games.

The Braves have now lost all three of their starting outfielders due to injury in the past two games. Jason Heyward hurt his hamstring on Thursday, and B.J. Upton strained his adductor muscle while diving for a ball in the first inning on Friday.
