Max Scherzer loses first game as Rangers beat Tigers
The Rangers snapped Scherzer’s 21 start unbeaten streak.

Scherzer (13-1) had not lost a regular season game since September 23 against the Minnesota Twins last year, a span of 21 starts. The right-hander was attempting to become the first pitcher to begin the season 14-0 since Roger Clemens in 1986.
The All-Star labored through six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. Scherzer struck out six and walked two, throwing 122 pitches in the process.
The Tigers' offense did not provide Scherzer with his usual run support. Detroit's hitters entered Saturday averaging 5.84 runs per game during Scherzer's starts, the highest run-support average among qualified starters in MLB. Derek Holland limited Detroit to one run on five hits, fanning seven Tigers over seven innings.
Scherzer also took a comebacker off his left wrist during the game, but X-rays came back negative, according to Bobby Nightengale of MLB.com
