No player in American League history has hit more home runs than Chris Davis before the All-Star break.

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis tied the American League record for home runs before the All-Star break on Sunday, hitting his 37th home run of the season. Davis jumped all over a pitch from Toronto Blue Jays starter Josh Johnson and deposited it into the left field seats for his third and fourth RBI of the game, giving the O's a 6-0 lead.

Reggie Jackson is the only other AL player to reach 37 home runs before the All-Star Game, doing so in 1969. Barry Bonds has the most home runs in Major League history before the break, hitting 39 in 2001, the year he set a single-season record with 73 home runs in a season. Mark McGwire also hit 37 home runs prior to the break, doing so in 1998.

Davis does have an advantage on Bonds, Jackson and McGwire -- he played in 95 games before the All-Star Break. That is four more than Jackson did when he hit 37 homers, a staggering 14 more than Bonds in 2001 and 15 more than McGwire in 1998.
