Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Matt Davidson received MVP honors.

USA TODAY Sports

The United States team defeated the World team, 4-2, in the 2013 MLB Futures Game, giving the U.S. team a 9-6 advantage in the overall series.

Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Matt Davidson was named Futures Game MVP. Davidson blasted a two-run homer off Oakland Athletics pitching prospect Michael Ynoa, giving the U.S. team a lead it would not relinquish. C.J. Cron and Christian Yelich both had multi-hit games, while Garin Cecchini added a double.

The World team only mustered three hits against the U.S. pitching; Xander Bogaerts hit a pair of singles, while Arismendy Alcantara smashed a solo homer off Anthony Ranaudo in the fourth.

Both starting pitchers were from the New York Mets organization. Rafael Montero and Noah Syndergaard did not disappoint the home crowd; each pitcher threw a scoreless frame in his half of the first inning.

Minnesota Twins third baseman Miguel Sano put on a show during batting practice, reports David Schoenfield of ESPN.com, but went 0-for-2 with a walk.
