Giancarlo Stanton unlikely to be traded by Marlins, per report

The Marlins believe their rebuilding is ahead of schedule, and want to see if Stanton can mix with their up-and-coming players.

The Miami Marlins are unlikely to trade outfielder Giancarlo Stanton before the trade deadline or even during the offseason, reports Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.

Other teams, including the Texas Rangers, continue to call the Marlins about Stanton, according to Knobler. Miami is currently rebuilding faster than expected, and the team wants to see how well Stanton meshes with its up-and-coming players.

Stanton started the season slow and spent six weeks on the disabled list, but has played well since returning to the team. Miami entered Sunday with a 17-13 record since Stanton’s return, the third-best record in the NL during that time span.

The Marlins' young pitchers have looked impressive, as Jose Fernandez, Nathan Eovaldi and Jacob Turner all have sub-3.00 ERAs in the starting rotation. Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria and outfielder Marcell Ozuna have also impressed scouts, giving Miami a solid young core to build around.

Miami recently traded Ricky Nolasco to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and are still willing to part with relief pitchers and veteran position players before the trade deadline.
