White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy hopes to return from a fractured rib this weekend against the Braves, reports Scott Merkin of MLB.com.
Jake Peavy injury: White Sox starter hoping to return this weekend
If healthy, Peavy could be one of the best pitchers on the market this July.

Peavy recently completed a successful rehab start at Double-A Birmingham, and has the green light to return. The team considered bringing him back on Sunday, but decided that it would be best for him to get in a rehab start before pitting him against major-league hitters once more.
Peavy, 32, has an ERA of 4.30 in 67 innings this year. He has been out since early-June with that rib injury, though, in a pitching-thin trade market, that and Peavy’s injury history might not scare teams away looking for an upgrade in their rotation for the stretch run.
If Peavy pitches well upon his return, he could become a valuable asset for the White Sox to try and move over the last couple of weeks before the non-waiver trade deadline. A market could form for Peavy after Matt Garza is dealt, as Peavy would provide a decent alternative to the Cubs right-hander. Unlike Garza, Peavy is also under contract for 2014, and has a player option for 2015.
The White Sox are already in sell-mode, having dealt reliever Matt Thornton to the Red Sox for prospect Brandon Jacobs, while other players like Alex Rios, Matt Lindstrom, and the injured Jesse Crain are reportedly on the block as well.
