MLB Home Run Derby update: Yoenis Cespedes and Bryce Harper advance to final round

Cespedes hit 23 homers in the first two rounds, while Harper finished with 16.

USA TODAY Sports

The final round of the 2013 Home Run Derby is set; Yoenis Cespedes and Bryce Harper will compete for the title.

Colorado Rockies outfielder Michael Cuddyer, who finished with seven homers in the first round, led off the second round. The 34-year-old nearly hit the truck for a second straight round, sending eight homers deep in the second. Cuddyer finished with 15 total home runs.

Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis followed Cuddyer. Davis, who tied Reggie Jackon for the most home runs hit by an AL player before the All-Star break with 37, only hit four homers in the second round. The slugger finished with 12 total home runs.

Harper, who hit eight homers in the first round, stepped to the plate after Davis. The Washington Nationals outfielder hit eight homers in the second round, his final home run coming with two outs left. Harper finished with 16 homers, one ahead of Cuddyer.

Cespedes, who hit 17 homers in the first round, had already qualified for the final round when he chose to swing in the second. The Oakland Athletics outfielder hit a homer on his first swing in the second round, and finished the round with six homers, including one that bounced off the Chevrolet in center field.
