MLB All-Star Game 2013: Robinson Cano leaves game after HBP

The Yankees second baseman should be fine after taking a hit to the quad, Fox Sports reports.

Mike Ehrmann

Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano left Tuesday's All-Star Game after being hit by a Matt Harvey fastball in the first inning. The pitch struck Cano near the right knee, and he visibly limped down to first base after being attended to by the team trainer.

The pitch actually struck Cano on the quad, Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports. Rosenthal added during the television broadcast that X-rays were negative.

He stayed in the game as a baserunner for one batter, before being pulled for Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia. The American League team also has second basemen Jason Kipnis and Ben Zobrist, if the need arises for another replacement.

Cano has been a huge part of the Yankees surprising success in the first-half this season, and any time he might miss would be a huge blow to the Yankees’ playoff chances. While it is tough to see a player get hurt, it is even tougher to see it happen in an exhibition game.

This shrinks the Yankee representation in the All-Star Game down to relief pitcher Mariano Rivera.
