Stephen Drew injury: Red Sox SS to begin rehab assignment Thursday
Drew has been out since late June with hamstring tightness, but is set to return to Boston’s lineup within the next week.

Drew has been running at full speed the past week as he primes himself for a return from right hamstring tightness. Red Sox manager John Farrell said that the shortstop would “go on a very, very brief rehab”. All indications are that Drew will return to the big league roster within the next week.
The oft-injured Drew has missed over 30 games this season due to various ailments. The latest injury has kept him on the disabled list since June 28. He has also been out this season with back discomfort and a concussion.
Drew, 30, also missed large parts of the 2011 and 2012 seasons due to injuries. He signed a one year, $9.5 million deal with Boston in the offseason and has hit .233/.313/.409 over 66 games.
