Texas Rangers right-hander Colby Lewis returned to the mound Wednesday night for the first time since late May, throwing 2⅔ innings for Double-A Frisco. The 33-year-old didn't exactly have his best stuff going for him -- he allowed four runs on four hits -- but he was still optimistic about his recovery after the game, reports Master Tesfatsion(!) of MLB.com:

“I was hoping it would feel a lot better, and it definitely does,” Lewis said.
“It’s just a case of I need to go out and continue to get reps and be able to repeat my delivery and repeating what I’m best at -- pounding the ball down in the strike zone on both sides of the plate -- I feel like I’ll get that, I’ll be where I need to be.”

Five somewhat vague -- but also bold! -- predictions for the second half. Lewis added that his arm felt much better Wednesday than it did in his previous outing with the RoughRiders back in May. The right-hander made three rehab starts that month -- and was originally scheduled to return from elbow surgery around that time -- but soreness in his triceps and elbow set him back.
The Rangers still don't have a timeline set for Lewis' return to the rotation. He's likely to make another rehab start with Frisco next Monday, but everything beyond that is still up in the air. With Lewis still out indefinitely, the Rangers have been active on the starting pitching trade market, and are believed to be the front-runners for Cubs right-hander Matt Garza.
Lewis is not the only Rangers starter working his way back from an injury. Yu Darvish and Alexi Ogando are also on the rehab trail, but they're likely to be activated next Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
