Marlins hosting Legends of Wrestling Night on August 24

There are actual legends of wrestling who will be in attendance at the event, too.

The Marlins don't have the greatest attendance in the world, but they do live in a state where wrestling is huge. WWE's current developmental facility and program, NXT, is based in Florida, and there is a much longer history of wrestling in the state than that to look back upon. The Marlins have decided to combine that knowledge and history with their baseball season, and are hosting a Legends of Wrestling game on August 24.

You might think the Marlins would cheap out and recruit say, the Juan Pierres of wrestling’s past, but according to The Biz of Baseball’s Maury Brown, Miami managed to reel in some impressive names for the event. Two-time world champion Bill Goldberg -- who won the World Heavyweight Championship in both WCW and WWE -- is slated to throw out the first pitch of the evening, while his former tag-team partner and WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart is also scheduled to appear. The list goes on from there, though, with three more WWE Hall of Fame wrestlers in Koko B. Ware, Greg Valentine, and Jimmy Hart, as well as nearly a dozen others taking part in the festivities.

Brown reports that, after the actual game against the Rockies, there will be "three to four" wrestling matches for the fans in attendance. Granted, not all of these guys can go in the ring like they could in their prime -- something tells me you aren't going to see anyone taking any major bumps off of a ladder or something -- but if all you want is to see Goldberg spear a dude, then you should get your money's worth. Hey, it worked in WCW for years.
