MLB Trade Rumors: Pittsburgh Pirates interested in Alex Rios, Alexei Ramirez

A pair of White Sox players could help the Pirates improve offensively during the second half of the season.

USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Pirates are interested in acquiring Chicago White Sox outfielder Alex Rios and shortstop Alexei Ramirez, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Pittsburgh resumes play on Friday with a 56-37 record, one game behind the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. Pirates pitchers have surrendered the fewest runs in baseball, but their offense has scored the third fewest runs in the National League.

Rios has hit .270/.326/.429 with 11 homers and 19 stolen bases this season. The outfielder has been in a bit of a slump, hitting .258/.311/.338 since the end of May. Ramirez will enter Friday hitting .286/.311/.358 with 20 stolen bases.

Both players are under contract beyond this season. Rios is due $18 million in 2014 and has a 2015 club option worth $13.5 million or a $1 million buyout. Ramirez is guaranteed $9.5 million in 2014 and $10 million in 2015 with a club option for $10 million in 2016 or a $1 million buyout.
