Major League Baseball is investigating more players in the Biogenesis scandal than just those that have been publicly linked to the defunct Miami-area clinic, sources have told Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports.
Biogenesis scandal: MLB investigating more players, per report
MLB is investigating more players in the Biogensis case than those whose names have already been made public.
Passan didn’t name any specific players or say how many other players are currently under investigation, but reported sources have said that the MLB is not finished interviewing players under investigation. That alone makes any hope of an expedited process unlikely.
There is a chance that none of the players under investigation will have to serve a suspension this season, according to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports. It’s also unclear how long the suspensions will be since the case could fall outside of the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Adding to that, a single arbitrator is expected to hear all of the cases which could delay the suspensions even further.
A number of well-known players -- including Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun, Nelson Cruz and Melky Cabrera -- have already been linked to Biogenesis.
