Matt Garza trade: Rangers, Cubs don’t expect deal Friday night

The rumored deal that would send Matt Garza to the Rangers has hit a snag as the teams exhange medical records and it will not happen on Friday.

All day Friday, the Rangers appeared to be making progress on deal that would be Garza in to help their beleaguered rotation down the stretch, but, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the deal hit a speed bump when the two teams exchanged medical records. The Rangers were hoping to complete the deal in time for Garza to start for them on Saturday against the Orioles. With this report, the window for that to take place appears to have closed. Garza is scheduled to make his next start for the Cubs on Monday.

There is no report yet on what specific issue caused the deal to collapse. The Rangers are still pursuing Garza, but there is now a chance that other teams could rejoin the bidding, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The original deal included third baseman Mike Olt and starters Neil Ramirez and C.J. Edwards heading to the Cubs, according to Passan. ESPN's Jim Bowden has been told by a source that the deal will still get done, with Ramirez as the centerpiece.
