Astros center fielder Brandon Barnes hit for the cycle on Friday against the Seattle Mariners, becoming the first Astros hitter to do so since Luke Scott on July 28, 2006 and the first right-handed Astros hitter to do so since Craig Biggio managed it on April 8, 2002, as pointed out by the team's Twitter feed.

Barnes first came to the plate in the bottom of the second and delivered a solo home run to center. In his second at-bat, which came in the fourth inning, he hit an RBI-triple deep into the gap in right center. He picked up a single on a ground ball to right field in the sixth, putting him just a double away.
Barnes came up in the eighth inning with a runner on and once again went the other way with the ball, hitting a sharp grounder down the first base line. Mariners right fielder Michael Saunders was quick to the ball but Barnes was thinking cycle right out of the box and ran hard for second. The throw appeared to be on time, but Barnes was called safe at second, giving him the last piece he needed to complete his cycle.
Barnes has just the second cycle of the 2013 season. Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels hit for the cycle on May 21, becoming the youngest player in American League history to achieve the feat.
