Stephen Drew injury: Red Sox SS activated; Brock Holt sent to minors

Drew has missed three weeks due to hamstring tightness but will lot back in to shortstop for the Red Sox.

The Boston Red Sox officially activated shortstop Stephen Drew from the disabled list on Saturday, according to Evan Drellich of the Springfield Republican. To make room for Drew on the roster, infielder Brock Holt was optioned to the minors.

Drew hasn’t played since June 28 with hamstring tightness and has appeared in just 66 games during 2013 due to various injuries. Along with the hamstring tightness, Drew has also missed time with a concussion and back discomfort this year.

Drew has hit .233/.313/.409 this year, his first season with the Red Sox, after signing a one year contract worth $9.5 million. He will slot back into the eighth spot in the order while playing shortstop.

Holt was called up July 6 and played in 10 games for Boston, hitting .290 with a .624 OPS.
