The St. Louis Cardinals purchased the contract of minor league outfielder Brock Peterson after placing Matt Holliday on the disabled list, the team announced on Saturday.

Peterson will finally live out his dream after spending 11 seasons in the minor leagues. This season has been Peterson’s best as a professional as he is hitting .306/.382/.564 with 22 home runs in 390 plate appearances for Triple-A Memphis, already surpassing his previous single-season high.
Matt Holliday injury: Cardinals OF lands on DL with hamstring strain
The normally-durable Matt Holliday will serve a DL stint after injuring his hamstring more than a week ago. Peterson hit 21 homers in High-A in 2006, four years after the Minnesota Twins selected him with their 49th-round pick in the 2002 draft. Five years later, Peterson found himself playing independent ball with Bridgeport of the Atlantic League. He put up solid numbers there in 2011 and 2012 before being picked up by the Cardinals late last season. He hit five home runs in just 21 games for Memphis and the momentum continued into this season.
The 6’3, 215-pound native of Centralia, Wash., will wear No. 41 in his big-league debut, according to the Cardinals’ official Twitter account.
