Athletics recall Dan Straily, option Sonny Gray to Triple-A

Dan Straily is back with the A’s after a quick detour to Triple-A during the All-Star break.

The Oakland Athletics recalled starting pitcher Dan Straily from Triple-A Sacramento, the team announced on Saturday. The A's optioned reliever Sonny Gray to Sacramento in a corresponding move.

Straily was sent to Triple-A during the All-Star break to keep his pitching schedule intact. He tossed seven shutout innings on July 14 against Fresno, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out seven. He will take the mound for the A's on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Straily is 6-2 with a 4.28 ERA for the A’s in 2013. He has allowed 64 hits in 80 innings pitched while striking out 66 batters and walking 26.

Gray was on the mound for a total of four innings across a pair of appearances in his big-league cameo. The 23-year-old right-hander struck out six batters and walked one while allowing no runs on two hits for the A’s. Gray is 8-5 with a 2.31 ERA in Triple-A while striking out 107 batters in 102 ⅓ innings.
