San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong threw a simulated game on Saturday and impressed manager Bruce Bochy, reports Andrew Baggarly of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.
Ryan Vogelsong injury: Giants RHP throws simulated game, could return Aug. 9
Vogelsong faced hitters for the first time on Saturday since undergoing surgery on his hand.

The right-hander threw 33 total pitches and used all of his pitches, according to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. Vogelsong threw 62 pitches in the bullpen during the All-Star break, but Saturday was his first time facing hitters.
Vogelsong underwent surgery in May to insert pins in his broken hand. The Giants initially estimated the starter would miss 12 weeks, and are targeting an Aug. 9 return date for Vogelsong, which would be just shy of 12 weeks after his original injury.
Vogelsong is expected to make a start on Tuesday in the Arizona Rookie League. He will also make rehab starts for Class A San Jose and Double-A Richmond before returning to the Giants rotation, writes Schulman.
The starter struggled with the Giants to start the season, going 2-4 with a 7.19 ERA. Vogelsong had been a key contributor to the San Francisco pitching rotation, posting a 2.71 ERA in 2011 and a 3.37 ERA in 2012.
