The Colorado Rockies have placed closer Rafael Betancourt on the disabled list with appendicitis, retroactive to July 15, the team announced on Saturday.
Rafael Betancourt injury: Rockies closer placed on DL with appendicitis
Mitchell Boggs will replace Betancourt on the 25-man roster.

Betancourt spent time on the DL earlier this season with a right groin strain. The closer has been effective when healthy, converting 15 saves in 16 opportunities with a 3.16 ERA.
The Rockies recalled Mitchell Boggs from Double-A Tulsa to replace Betancourt in the bullpen. Colorado acquired Boggs from the St. Louis Cardinals on July 9 in exchange for an international bonus slot. Boggs struggled with the Cardinals this season, as he allowed 20 runs in 14 2/3 innings, but had a 2.21 ERA over 73 1/3 innings in 2012.
Rex Brothers is expected to serve as the team's closer in place of Betancourt. Brothers has four saves this season with a 1.11 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings. Matt Belisle will likely replace Brothers as the team's set-up man.
