Alex Rodriguez injury: Yankees 3B to have MRI on sore quad

Rodriguez’s story has been a long one in 2013 despite the fact he has not yet played a major league game. He still believes he will return in the next few days.

The Alex Rodriguez saga continues as the Yankees third baseman will have an MRI on his quadriceps, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

On a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Rodriguez was originally expected to play third base Saturday but was moved to DH prior to the game.

The Yankees had been planning on activating Rodriguez Monday, but that date is now in question. Rodriguez told reporters that he may have strained his quad sliding into second base on Friday.

For his part, Rodriguez says that he will still return to the Yankees lineup in the next few days, be it Monday or Tuesday.

Rodriguez, 37, has not played for the Yankees this season after undergoing off-season hip surgery. The active leader in home runs, Rodriguez hit for a .783 OPS in 2012.

The Yankees have been starting Luis Cruz at third base recently. Cruz has a .387 OPS this season between the Dodgers and Yankees.
