Alex Rodriguez was hoping to rejoin the New York Yankees soon, but after an MRI revealed a Grade 1 strain in his left quad over the weekend, the team announced that the slugger will instead be heading to Tampa to receive treatment.
Alex Rodriguez injury: Yankees 3B has Grade 1 quad strain, will head to Tampa
A-Rod was hoping to rejoin the Yankees on Monday, but a quad injury has sent him back down to Tampa.

The Yankees were hopeful the star could return to the lineup as early Monday, but he could now be sidelined between seven and 10 days.
Rodriguez was scheduled to play in the final game of his rehab stint with the Yankees’ Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre affiliate on Sunday, but skipped the game to instead undergo the MRI.
Rodriguez has been attempting to return to the Yankees lineup after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip in January. That comeback hit a speed bump after he complained of soreness in his left quad following a rehab game on Saturday. After consulting with Yankee leadership following the game, it was decided that Rodriguez would instead undergo testing.
The 37-year-old still has four years remaining on his massive 10-year, $275-million deal, which the Yankees are currently trying to rid themselves of. On top of the injury concerns, a potential major suspension looms over Rodriguez for his connection to the Biogenesis PED scandal.
