The first major suspension from the Biogenesis scandal rolled off the presses Monday as MLB announced Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun will be suspended for the remainder of the season. Relaying the news, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel adds Braun has accepted the punishment and will not appeal.

The former NL MVP will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2013 season.
After months of investigation by MLB into the relationship between Biogenesis owner Anthony Bosch and a number of players, an announcement of suspensions was expected eventually. However, this comes as a relative surprise given that some believed the commissioner’s office would wait to begin handing out punishments until after the season.
With Braun, MLB won't be wasting any time, as the suspension takes place immediately for the Brewers outfielder. He'll be forced to sit out the remaining 65 games of the season, beginning with Monday night's game against the San Diego Padres.
As part of the announcement, MLB executive vice president Rob Manfred said the following:
“We commend Ryan Braun for taking responsibility for his past actions. We all agree that it is in the best interests of the game to resolve this matter. When Ryan returns, we look forward to him making positive contributions to Major League Baseball, both on and off the field.”
Braun is the first player to be suspended for his ties to Biogenesis concerning performance-enhancing drugs, but he likely won't be last. As many as 20 players have been involved in MLB's investigation, including another former MVP in Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez.
The 29-year-old finishes the 2013 season with a .298/.372/.498 batting line and nine homers in 61 games.
