Around the Bases: Dodgers, Orioles, Mariners continue winning streaks, Athletics remain perfect against Astros

Rangers 3, Yankees 0: Yu Darvish looked strong in his return from the disabled list, holding the Yankees scoreless for 6 1/3 innings. Nelson Cruz crushed his 23rd home run of the season, while A.J. Pierzynski had a multi-hit game for the Rangers. Texas announced before the game that the team acquired starting pitcher Matt Garza from the Chicago Cubs.

Pirates 6, Nationals 5: Jason Grilli injured his arm with two outs in the ninth inning, but Vin Mazzaro forced a Steve Lombardozzi groundout to end the game. Andrew McCutchen hit a pair of two-run homers off Dan Haren, while Russell Martin went 2-for-3 with a walk. Charlie Morton picked up a quality start, allowing three runs on six hits over 6 2/3 innings.

Dodgers 14, Blue Jays 5: A.J. Ellis hit a two-run homer and drove in a career-high five runs to lead the Dodgers to their fourth straight victory. Skip Schumaker added a three-run homer, his first of the season, while Andre Ethier chipped in with a pair of doubles. Hyun-Jin Ryu improved to 8-3 on the season, as he surrendered four runs on nine hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Rays 3, Red Sox 0: Matt Moore tossed a complete game shutout, only surrendering two hits over nine innings while striking out four. Ben Zobrist went 3-for-5 at the plate, while James Loney drove in a pair of runs. Tampa Bay now trails Boston by a 1/2 game in the AL East.

Braves 2, Mets 1: Jason Heyward made a diving, game-ending catch, robbing Justin Turner of extra bases in the bottom of the ninth inning:

Reed Johnson hit the go-ahead single in the top of the ninth as Atlanta rallied from a 1-0 deficit against New York closer Bobby Parnell. Mets starter Dillon Gee carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and ended up tossing seven shutout frames.

Tigers 7, White Sox 3: Max Scherzer out-pitched Chris Sale, as the Tigers' starter surrendered two runs on four hits over eight innings. Victor Martinez went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, while Torii Hunter smacked a solo shot. Miguel Cabrera left the game in the fifth inning with a sore hip flexor, and the team will evaluate his status on Tuesday.

Padres 5, Brewers 3: Jesus Guzman hit a solo homer in the second inning and a two-run double in the sixth off Tom Gorzelanny that snapped a 3-3 tie. Andrew Cashner tossed six solid innings, allowing three runs on three hits while fanning six Brewers. Milwaukee found out before the game that MLB suspended Ryan Braun for the rest of the season.

Athletics 4, Astros 3: Josh Reddick hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to cap off the Athletics come-from-behind victory. Tommy Milone kept the game in reach for Oakland, allowing three runs on five hits over six innings. The Athletics improved to 10-0 against the Astros this season, who have lost six straight games.

Marlins 3, Rockies 1: Tom Koehler worked seven strong innings, allowing one run on eight hits while fanning seven. The Marlins entered the game with a franchise record 37-inning scoreless streak, but scored a pair of runs in the first inning to snap the drought. Giancarlo Stanton hit a RBI-double and drew a pair of walks, while Ed Lucas added a solo home run.

Orioles 9, Royals 2: Chris Davis and J.J. Hardy each drove in three runs to extend the Orioles' winning streak to a season-high five games. Baltimore chased Royals starter Wade Davis after 2 2/3 innings, as they tagged Davis for four runs while collecting seven hits and three walks. Scott Feldman earned his second victory with the Orioles, only allowing two runs on five hits over eight innings.

Mariners 2, Indians 1: Aaron Harang threw seven quality innings, as he surrendered one run on four hits while striking out two. Kendrys Morales hit a solo homer in the fourth, while Mike Zunino smacked a solo shot of his own in the fifth. Tom Wilhelmsen tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his 22nd save of the season. The victory was the seventh straight for Seattle.

Cubs 4, Diamondbacks 2: Junior Lake went deep for the first time in his MLB career off Tyler Skaggs, finishing the game 4-for-5 with three RBI. Chicago recalled starting pitcher Chris Rusin before the game to fill-in for Garza, and Rusin tossed five solid frames to earn the victory. Dioner Navarro hit a solo blast off Skaggs in the second inning, while Starlin Castro finished 2-for-5 with a double. The combination of the Diamondbacks' loss and Monday's Dodgers win results in Los Angeles taking over sole possession of first place in the National League West.

Twins 4, Angels 3: Clete Thomas had a huge game for the Twins, as he had an RBI double and a home run. In the bottom of the eighth, Thomas robbed Chris Iannetta of a go-ahead three-run homer to end an Angels rally. The Angels threatened again in the bottom of the ninth, but Minnesota was able to hang on for the win.

Reds 11, Giants 0: This was just a good old-fashioned mugging. The Reds touched Tim Lincecum for three runs in the first inning (in his first start since throwing a no-hitter) and never looked back, scoring in the first seven innings. Bronson Arroyo threw a complete-game shutout, giving up seven hits and striking out six, while walking none.
