Fielding a leading question following Tuesday’s game in Toronto, Kemp iterated that he believes that Braun should be stripped of his 2011 NL MVP award, per AP:
“I mean, yeah, I do,” pausing and adding, “I feel like it should be, but that’s not for me to decide, you know?”
Kemp finished second in the NL MVP voting to Braun in 2011, so the question was obviously designed to get the Dodgers outfielder to say something along the lines of “I’m the rightful MVP,” which he smartly did not say (but also sort of did). Kemp added that he and his fellow player feel “betrayed” by what Braun said and did.
In the initial BBWAA voting, Braun finished with 388 points and 20 first-place votes, while Kemp got 332 points and 10 top votes. The Writers Association has never reneged on an award in the past -- even when given to known PED users (see: Giambi, Jason) --so it seems rather unlikely that they’ll set a new precedent in this case.
