The Detroit Tigers are showing "continued interest" in acquiring San Diego Padres righty reliever Luke Gregerson before the trade deadline, reports Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.

Gregerson, 29, is arguably one of the best (healthy) relievers left on the trade market now that Matt Thornton and Francisco Rodriguez have changed hands. The right-hander owns a 2.79 earned-run average and has struck over four times as many batters as he's walked in 42 innings this season, making him a solid candidate to help the Tigers with their late-inning woes.
The 6’3 right-hander is currently in his second arbitration year, so he has one more full season before he hits the free-agent market. Gregerson is owed about $1.5 million for the remainder of the year, so his salary shouldn’t get in the way of a deal being made.

The son of Greger isn't the only Friars bullpen arm potentially on the move, so there's a chance the other clubs were there scouting someone other than Gregerson. Morosi posits that fellow right-handers Huston Street and Dale Thayer, as well as southpaw Joe Thatcher, could be available.
While several teams -- i.e. Phillies, Mariners, Royals -- have jumped off the selling wagon in the last few weeks because of (sort of) improved play, the Padres have gone the other way. Losers of 14 of their last 19, the Padres are now firmly out of the playoff picture, so there shouldn't be anything standing in the way of them selling off spare parts in the next week.
