Eric Wedge suffered mild stroke, will miss upcoming road trip

The Mariners manager is expected to make a full recovery from a mild stroke.

USA TODAY Sports

Eric Wedge was released from the hospital following a “very mild stroke,” the Seattle Mariners announced. Wedge experienced some dizziness during Monday’s game and was taken to the hospital, where the stroke was diagnosed.

“We are happy to announce that Eric Wedge has been released from the hospital today. He is home with his family resting and feeling well,” the team said in a release. “After much testing the doctors believe he suffered a very mild stroke. The doctors expect that he will have a full and complete recovery.”

The 45-year-old Wedge spent two nights in the hospital and will not travel with the team on an upcoming six-game road trip, but is expected to be back when the team returns to Seattle. Bench coach Robby Thompson will be the team’s manager in Wedge’s absence.
