Ross Detwiler injury: Nationals LHP has pinched nerve, out a month

The Nationals starting pitcher will be out for another month after the team had originally hoped he could return in early August.

Nationals starting pitcher Ross Detwiler will miss another month due to a pinched nerve, reports Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post.

Detwiler received an injection on Wednesday to help with the injury. He had flown to Los Angeles Tuesday night to visit with renowned surgeon Robert Watkins, Sr., who specializes in back injuries.

The Nationals placed Detwiler on the disabled list July 7 after the pitcher felt stiffness in his back following a bullpen session. Dan Haren was activated from the DL to take Detwiler's spot in the rotation.

On the season, Detwiler has a 4.04 ERA and 1.486 WHIP over 13 starts. He missed a month early in the season with a strained oblique, an injury that appears to be unrelated to his current issue.

The Nationals hadn’t been expecting Detwiler to return until August, but this setback would appear to keep him out past their original expectations.
