The Seattle Mariners placed rookie catcher Mike Zunino on the 15-day disabled list after he suffered a broken hamate bone during Thursday's game against the Minnesota Twins, per the team. Seattle signed veteran catcher Humberto Quintero to replace Zunino on the active roster.

Zunino injured his left hand on an RBI-single in the second inning of the Mariners 8-2 win over the Twins on Thursday. He remained in the game until the top of the fifth inning when he was replaced by back up Henry Blanco.
Zunino was ranked as the 17th-best prospect in baseball by Baseball America, making him the highest ranked catcher on that list. He was called up to the Mariners on June 12 and is hitting 242/.315/.343 in 111 plate appearances at the major league level.
He’s also shown some solid skills behind the plate, throwing out 30% of base runners while not committing an error in 27 games. He has had some struggles on defense, however, allowing a passed ball and 12 wild pitches so far this year.
Quintero began the 2013 season with the Phillies and hit.250/.294/.406 with Philadelphia before being designated for assignment on July 24.
