Cardinals activate Matt Holliday from DL

Matt Holliday is back in the Cardinals’ lineup after missing time with a hamstring injury.

The St. Louis Cardinals activated outfielder Matt Holliday from the disabled list Saturday, according to the team's official Twitter page.

Holliday was placed on the DL retroactive to July 12 due to a strained right hamstring. He left the Cardinals' game against the Cubs on July 11 early after feeling tightness in the hamstring. Saturday was the first day he was eligible to rejoin the Cardinals' active roster.

Holliday, 33, has hit .268/.351/.448 with 13 home runs over 83 games in 2013. He is a career .310 hitter, and his current .800 OPS is the lowest of his 10-year career. Holliday had been hitting well prior to his injury, with a .914 OPS over his last 10 games.

To make room for Holliday, outfielder Brock Peterson was optioned to Triple-A. Peterson received seven plate appearances, collecting one hit and two runs batted in.

Holliday is in the Cardinals' Saturday lineup against the Braves.
