MLB trade rumors: Giants, Angels entertaining offers for veterans

Both teams had hopes to reach the postseason, but now plan to listen to trade offers on some of their veterans to improve their teams for the future.

The San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels are both planning to entertain trade offers on some of their veteran players, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The two teams entered 2013 as favorites to reach the postseason, but neither look to be serious contenders now. The Giants are 46-58, sitting 10 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers for last place in the NL West. The Angels are 48-55, 13 games behind the Oakland Athletics in the AL West.

San Francisco would prefer to keep Hunter Pence, Tim Lincecum and Javier Lopez for next season, according to Rosenthal. The Giants, however, realize that they could get strong returns for Pence and Lincecum, and still have the potential to re-sign them in free agency after the season.

Los Angeles appears to be more aggressive than San Francisco in moving its veterans, as the team traded Scott Downs to the Atlanta Braves Monday. Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar are also available, and the Angels are hoping to receive a starting pitcher under multi-year control in return.
