Brian Wilson rumors: Free agent reliever reportedly close to signing

The Giants and Pirates are reportedly serious about bringing in Brian Wilson.

Former San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson is close to signing a deal with an unnamed team, according to CBS Sports' Scott Miller. It's unclear which team, but Miller's sources said the Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates are "serious suitors."

The 31-year-old Wilson worked out for a handful of major league teams last week in Los Angeles, Calif., and was described by one scout in attendance as "getting close," according to Miller. If he's able to contribute immediately, the Pirates would make sense due to current closer Jason Grilli being shelved with a strained right forearm.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks are also interested in Wilson, according to Miller, though Phoenix-area talk show host John Gambadoro tweeted on Monday that the D-Backs are "not in" on the free-agent reliever.

Wilson last pitched in the big leagues in 2012, appearing in just two games before landing on the disabled list and not pitching again for the rest of the season. He posted a 3.11 ERA with 36 saves in 57 games in 2011, but ended the season with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 1.74 -- his worst since his rookie season.
