MLB trade rumors: Nate Schierholtz could be next Cub dealt

The Cubs have already made several trades leading up to Wednesday’s trade deadline, but they might have a couple deals left in the bag.

Chicago Cubs outfielder Nate Schierholtz could be on the move before Wednesday's trade deadline, an MLB source told ESPN Chicago's Jesse Rogers.

Schierholtz is hitting .278/.339/.530 with 14 home runs in his debut season with the Cubs -- his first as a full-time player in the big leagues -- while apparently attracting interest from the Texas Rangers and "two or three other teams," according to Rogers' source.

The 29-year-old Schierholtz was particularly impressive on a recent road trip playing against the Arizona Diamondbacks and then the San Francisco Giants, one of his former teams. Schierholtz went 9-for-22 at the plate with three home runs while the Cubs won five of seven to inch closer to .500 on the season.

Chicago has already dealt Scott Hairston, Scott Feldman, Carlos Marmol, Matt Garza and Alfonso Soriano, but it appears there are more moves to be made for the Cubs. Most recent reports indicate that the team is listening to offers for starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija, but the asking price is high. Reliever Kevin Gregg is another veteran the club could deal, per MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.
