Video: Yasiel Puig visits Coors Field, dominates all over it

Puig has been great at normal altitude; putting him in a hitters’ haven is just unfair.

USA TODAY Sports

Yasiel Puig set a record for rookie hits in a debut month in June, despite missing the first two games of the month while in the minors. It's going to be difficult to follow up that performance, but Puig's Dodgers open up July with a road trip to Coors Field, the greatest park for hitting out there. As you would expect, Coors and Puig combined their powers to give the Cuban phenom a head start on making July memorable.

Puig went 3-for-5 in his first trip to Coors, and also made a running (Puig has no other speed) catch in foul territory. It wasn’t just a bunch of singles, either, as Puig singled in his first trip to the plate, hit a stand-up double off of the wall in right for his second base knock, and then hit a homer in his next successful trip, leaving him a triple short of the cycle.

He was caught stealing once, but hey, not even Puig is perfect. He's now hitting .443/.473/.745 on the season, the Dodgers are 16-10 in his starts, and the push to have the year's most exciting new player appear on the All-Star team has begun in earnest. The best part? Jonathan Papelbon isn't on board with the idea, meaning your support of Puig will aggravate Papelbon. That's as win-win as you can get, folks.
